Out of the Mouth of Babes- learning scriptures

This morning the cute stinkers and I were reciting our scripture of the week and cute stinker #3 decided she was going to join in on the fun.  Have you ever heard a 19 month old recite a scripture?  It is probably the CUTEST THING YOU WILL EVER HEAR.  No joke.  I had to get her on video. The final seconds are my favorite part.

Do your kids like reading the scriptures?  I get in trouble now when I don't update the scripture of the week board every Sunday evening.  The girls also like to act out the scripture stories.  Last Monday my husband told the Parable of the 10 Virgins while my children acted out the story.  One daughter was the 5 smart girls (5 that were wise), and another was the 5 silly girls (5 that were foolish).  He was the Bridegroom.  They thought it was so fun, and my oldest even corrected my husband, saying that they were wise and foolish, not smart and silly.  I'm glad I have a 6 year old daughter to make sure we teach correct doctrine in this house.  Ha.  I will study a story and then tell it to my children with extra dramatics and they love it.

We like to read  illustrated scripture stories  that are produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We also read every night with their daddy (he leaves too early in the morning to study with us, hence the birth of our scripture of the week thing).  They love to help read the verses with him.

Children are never to young to learn from the scriptures.  The scriptures are wonderful because they are good for anyone at any spiritual level.  I am constantly learning new things from scriptures that I have read over and over again.  When we teach children the scriptures when they are young, the scriptures will provide them with comfort when they can call on them in hard situations in life.

Elder L. Tom Perry (one of the 12 apostles who just died, I'm going to miss learning from him.  Thank goodness for technology so I can continue to read and listen to his words) said the following,

"Teaching in the home is becoming increasingly important in today’s world, where the influence of the adversary is so widespread and he is attacking,                                        attempting to erode and destroy the very foundation of our society, even the family. Parents must resolve that teaching in the home is a most sacred and                                    important responsibility. While other institutions, such as church and school, can assist parents to “train up a child in the way he [or she] should go”                                         (Proverbs 22:6), ultimately this responsibility rests with parents." (Mothers Teaching Children in the Home).

I know that this is true.  My goal today is to take more time with my children to teach them and to play with them.  I love those cute little stinkers!  Enjoy the video!!!!!
