Some good quotes
For family scripture study Scott and I have been reading the conference talks from April. We did not remember a lot because we were busy with Kinsey while conference was going on (she was only 2 1/2 weeks old at the time) so we have been reading them to refresh our memory. Last night we read Elder M. Russell Ballard's talk entitled "Learning the Lessons of the Past". Here are some good quotes he said:
"It is my message and testimony to you today, my young friends, that for the most important questions of your eternal lives, there are answers in the scriptures and in the words and testimonies of apostles and prophets." I would like to say how grateful I am for that knowledge, especially for the knowledge that we have that there is a prophet and apostles on the earth today that lead and direct us today!
John Bartlett said "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".
"The voice of the Lord is clear and unmistakable. He knows you. He loves you. He wants you to be eternally happy. But according to your God-given agency, the choice is yours. Each one of you has to decide for yourself if you are going to ignore the past and suffer the painful mistakes and tragic pitfalls that have befallen previous generations, experiencing for yourself the devastating consequences of bad choices".
"You don't have to spend time as a Laman or a Lemuel in order to know that it's much better to be a Nephi or a Jacob. You don't have to follow the path of Cain or Gadianton in order to realize that 'wickedness never was happiness' (Alma 41:10). And you don't have to allow your community to become like Sodom and Gomorrah in order to understand that it isn't a good place to raise a family." This is probably one of my favorite quotes in his talk.
"If you are open and receptive to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit in your lives, you will understand the lessons of the past, and they will be burned into your souls by the power of your testimonies."
I love all of these quotes. This talk was amazing and it made me realize especially that we need to learn from the economic problems we have right now and change our lives so it won't happen again. We need to save money and build a food storage so if we were ever to be in a bad, possibly jobless situation we would be taken care of.
I would also like to testify that I know that what M. Russell Ballard, an apostle of the Lord, said is true. He is like the twelve apostles of old. He like the prophet and the other apostles of this time knows God and knows what we must know to live the way God would want us to live. I know that he is a special witness of God and as such we must listen to what he preaches. I love that we have apostles and prophets on the earth today to recieve revelation from God for his church. I am grateful to a loving God who loves us enough to let us have a prophet just as they did in the days of old. We are just as worthy as they were to have revelation from God. Read the talk. It is amazing!
