100% Whole wheat Cheese Crackers
So started my quest for whole wheat cheese crackers, with real cheese, not the powdered kind. I searched and searched, and I found a promising recipe, but it was not whole wheat. I found some whole wheat recipes, but they were not 100% whole wheat. Argh. The search continued until a light bulb went on yesterday- "I wonder if Heavenlyhomemakers.com has a recipe?" What do you know-they did. I had kind of stayed away from her website for awhile because I was mad that the graham cracker recipe did not work (I think I am going to give it a go again, and not make any substitutions-turns out you need a little bit of fat for crackers to flake and turn out right, who knew?), and I have not been entirely thrilled with the bagel recipe I tried, I am still searching and have a few more promising recipes to try.
Anywho, I found a recipe, so I gave it a try, and guess what? They are WONDERFUL! They taste kind of like cheese-its. You can find the recipe here: Whole Wheat cheese crackers. 2 recommendations I have: I would half the salt next time, and add a dash of paprika. I am not sure what the calorie count is. I may make them with low-fat chedder next time. We shall see. If they could just sell it here... Hmmm, that might be an issue! But, I am so excited that they turned out! My daughter loves them. I love them. My husband loved them (although, I don't think anything will get him away from his gold fish). It was a complete success!
*Stay tuned for a 100% whole wheat cracker recipe that I will post tomorrow(they taste like a combo between ritz and wheat thins, yum!).
P.S. Why do recipe books that say whole grain, or whole wheat baking on them include all-purpose flour in them? So far I have only found one, and that book is too involved. I am still on the search. Let me know if you find one! I just want to have recipes that have whole wheat in them! I don't want to substitute whole wheat flour, and then have them not turn out right.
P.S.S. My ice cream maker is WONDERFUL! I made cookies and cream ice cream yesterday and my husband loved it! It is a little high in calories, so I am on the search for low calorie versions. There is a recipe in there that uses pudding as the flavor base and is only 53 calories for 1/2 cup, so I am going to try that, and then let you know how it does! I love it though!
