The Finished Product

It is done!  I can now show you the finished product of my crochet project I have been working on these last two weeks.  You see, my friend Judith is due to have a baby boy in the next few weeks and she had a shower last night.  When I just finished school (I know, I finished, it STILL doesn't seem real) I wanted to do things that kept me busy and kept me learning.  One of the talents I wanted to improve upon was sewing/quilting and crocheting.  I know a lot more about crocheting than quilting, and realized that although I wanted to make a quilt two weeks was not enough time to finish that baby, so I decided for a afghan.  I went to our lovely library here in Hobbs and looked at their books on crocheting.  Lo and behold, I found a book with baby blanket/clothes patterns in it that were contemperary looking.  I got it and with the help of my husband I picked a pattern and went with it.  Afternoon naptime and after my little girls bedtime was the time I worked on this quilt.  I especially liked doing it during my favorite shows (Psyche, White Collar, and Covert Affairs, to name a few), because I would feel less guilty watching them if I was doing something productive during them.  So, after two weeks of blood and sweet and late nights (just kidding, but seriously, it was so fun!), I finished it on Wednesday.  I had to wait till now to show you because I did not want to ruin the surprise for Judith (she takes a gander on here every once in awhile).  I was so giddy with excitement yesterday.  I couldn't wait to give it to her.  I got this lovely gift giving love from my mother.  She liked it, which made me feel even better!  Here is the finished product:
Its not perfect, but I feel so proud because it is something I made with my hands.  I have quite a few new projects in mind, specifically a halloween costume for K (any suggestions would be more than welcome), some fall decorations, planning for Christmas presents, organizing the blog (have you guys been disappointed by pushing on the tabs above and only finding a few links?  Sorry, I am going to start working on that today...), and finally I am going to work on some baby blankets where I just crochet a border on a soft fabric.  They are nice to have on hand when I need a present fast for someone's baby.  And, I finished my book yesterda (good book, although I don't know if I would recommend it.  Too much foul language), and I started The Count of Monte Cristo last night.  I love reading when I don't have to feel guilty about not reading homework.  Its wonderful!

Yay for projects.  I feel so accomplished!

What are your goals/projects for the upcoming week?

We could so be friends in real life! I love to crochet while watching all of those shows on USA! Check out lionbrand.com. You can register for free and get tons of free patterns. Lion Brand and the library is where I find most of my stuff. The blanket looks great! I love the colors running through the squares. Good job.

And count of Monte Cristo is SUCH a great book! My suggestion is keep a note with who people are because they change names - it got a little confusing to me;)
