seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom
One aspect of college that I have truely enjoyed, especially in the last 2-ish years, is that I get to read some really good books. This week in my children's lit class I read "Lincoln: a Photobiography" by Russell Freedman (kind of ironic that his last name is Freedman, huh, seeing as Lincoln freed man...just realized that). Lincoln has always been one of my favorite American presidents, and I am sure it is clear why, but after I read this, I think he became my favorite president. I learned a lot of things about him I did not know, like the fact that he did not like being called Abe. Who knew? I didn't. It was also fun to read bits and pieces of his speeches. Most of the pictures are real photographs taken of Lincoln, which I think is super cool. I love my children's lit class. We read a lot of good books, and I feel like I have learned "words of wisdom" from these books. I think that is why I love reading so much, because I feel like I learn a ton. If you like learning about American history or about our presidents (although there are some that I just would wouldn't mind never reading about), this is the book for you. I highly recommend it, and it was written for children, so it is an easy read. I am so very grateful for Lincoln and everything that he did for our country.
P.S. Stay tuned. I am going to make graham crackers today or tomorrow again, and I will post my revised recipe and directions. Also, what do you think? Should I do an "Alisa Best Books" post every week? I am thinking so... this blog needs some changes and a little structure to them anyhow. Reading is part of being healthy in my book...haha...
