Making the Switch

At Good (&Cheap) Eats the author suggests that you can substitute raw sugar at a 1:1 ratio for processed sugar, and you can substitute honey for processed sugar as well, only do less honey than you would sugar because it is more sweet. When using honey, you should reduce liquids by 1/4 to 1/2 cup per cup of honey used. More info about that on her website. I think I am going to make the switch from processed sugar to raw. She also mentioned that it is cheaper to buy it in bulk, so that is what I will try to do. Raw sugar is not processed like white sugar or brown sugar. Honey is also a good option. I am always trying to make recipes healthier, especially baked treats. I figure the less processed the better, right?

I am also going to try something else when I go shopping today. Good and Cheap Eats has really good suggestions for living frugally. I need to try and do better with that especially in the grocery dept. She suggests that if you are going to buy produce it should be 1 dollar or less a pound, no matter the form-fresh, frozen, or canned. She suggested to buy it in bulk and preserve what you don't eat by freezing or canning. I can do that. So, today I am not going to buy produce unless it is 1 dollar or less a pound. Lets see how much lower our grocery bill is!

I've heard Guava nectar is actually better for you then honey. They sell it everywhere, I've even seen it at Wal-Mart. I love honey though so thanks for the advice.

Ya, I actually use agave nectar as well. I like it over yogurt with some berries. Yum! I like the taste of honey better, so I use it for other things. Thanks for reminding me olf that. I should have mentioned it as well.
