What an opportunity!

I have had the opportunity to attend Brigham Young University of Idaho for the last five years. What an opportunity! At the beginning of each semester I am reminded, by my professors, of my purpose as a student and disciple of Jesus Christ. At BYU-Idaho they have a learning model in which there is suggested a process of three steps that will help us learn the best. These steps are 1)Prepare, 2) Teach One Another, 3) Ponder and Prove. There are five principles that go with this learning model, that help me accomplish these steps. 1)Exercise Faith, 2) Learn by the Holy Ghost, 3)Lay Hold on the Word of God, 4)Act for yourself, 5) Love, serve, and teach one another.

I know, you are probably thinking, why in the heck is Alisa spouting of stuff about her school. I am because I not only believe that this has helped me become a more effective student, but a better person as well. These five principles will help me throughout the rest of my life. As I exercise my faith, learn by the Holy Ghost (because it is through Him that all truth is taught), lay hold on the word of God (by studying the scriptures and the words of his prophets), and act for and tak responsibility for myself, I will then be able to love, serve, and teach others better than if I were to try and learn and become what I must completely by myself.

Aren't these true principles for what I have been trying to do over the last nine-ish months? It is through faith that I believed I could lose the weight and become healthier. It is through learning by the holy ghost, and reading the scriptures, and actually acting upon what I learn, that I have accomplished what I have. And, because I have learned and done these things, I now have a bigger capacity to serve, love, and teach others what I have learned. I am grateful for my wonderful president and BYU-Idaho, President Kim B. Clark, for reminding me that these principles and steps can not only be used in my education, but also in the rest of my life.
