Swaps

Last week when we were grocery shopping, Scott said that he has ran out of treats for his lunches. I really don't like that he eats them, but obviously I will let him make the choice. If he wants the treats he buys them. He likes little debbies oat meal cream pies, and they are tasty, but they are definitely NOT healthy. So, I asked him if he would rather me make treats for him instead, like cookies or whatever. He thought about it for like a milisecond and told me to make treats for him instead. I will do anything to keep him away from the prepackaged treats like that. My philosophy is whenever you can make something instead of buying the similar thing, then do it because you can control what you put into what you are making. This is especially true when it comes to cookies and sweets. So, I am so happy that he decided to make the swap! So, I made sure to make cookies on Saturday (and try not to eat them all) so that he could have cookies for his lunches this week. So much I must sacrifice for him! :) Good thing I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE baking! Have I told you that before? Just another excuse! Isn't it wonderful?

So excited for something else. One of my classes is Children's Lit. So fun! There are 4 lessons out of the course that we got to choose a book to read from a list instead of a book that the teacher has chosen. One of the choices was "Kids' fun and healthy Cookbook" by Nicola Grimes, so surprise I chose it! I came in the mail yesterday, and I dropped everything and sat down to look at the book. I CAN'T wait to cook some of these recipes!!!!!!! They look so yummy! For each step in the recipe it has PICTURES so the kids know exactly what they should be doing in as they cook. It has an explanation at the beginning of healthy food, and what and how much you should be eating of each food group. It has a breakfast section, a light meal seciton, a main meals section, a desserts section, and a baking section! How cool is that? And, so far I am quite impressed. Each of the meals are pretty balanced, and they look really yummy. I might make one tonight for dinner, there is just no tellin! I am definitely going to bake at least one thing from the bakingsection this weekend. I can't wait! So far I highly recommend this cookbook, especially if you have any aspiring chefs in your children.

Okay, sorry, enough of my excitement, but I am really excited! It was so nice to have an excuse to buy ANOTHER cookbook.

I am Alisa, and I am a healthy cookbookaholic...

I felt like I was reading something I might have written about Dave! LOL He loves those treats!! I started making his treats too when I can, and put them in the freezer to keep for the week or so. Definitely saves money and his waistline I think. Kudos to him for swapping! Also, I'm glad you're starting your Children's lit class on a great note. Good luck!
